It's Not All Numbers
- the monthly update -

Good Morning, & welcome to the 1st of Winter!
So here we are the 1st of December, any one else thinking they probably should send a few Christmas cards / put up a couple of 'decs' / buy a gift or two or
.... like me all of the above! I promise that's the last time I mention the 'C' word today.. but I probably should mention the elephant in the room or the 'B' word. Unless you managed to have a complete news black out last week you probably heard the government budget, followed by everyone becoming an expert with their responses not to mention the scare mongering of the press as they concentrate on the doom. - and don't get me started on the behaviour of our MPs, surely I can't be the only one that felt a bit embarrassed by the behaviour of our so called political representative's, there heckling and giggling was worse than the school playground. Whatever happened to allowing someone to finish speaking before asking a question, when did it become ok to talk over someone just because you don't agree with them!

The Numbers Bit :
Without going to in depth into the budget, I thought this month's numbers bit should just take a quick look at how we can negate some of the downsides of the budget. And that comes down to having our own budget, these tips can apply to both our business and our household and as we head into the new year will help you plan out 2026

Review Costs
Take a look at your costs
Separate into Essential, Client Specific & Nice to have / Luxury. - this helps you plan out what costs you must cover from you earnings and the one's you can purchase if funds allow
Know the renewal dates for any on going subscriptions etc and diarise them so you know what month they'll be coming out of you bank
|
|
Review Pricing
Take a look at your fees
When was the last time you increased your charges?
Remember, you don't want to price yourself out of the market but you do need to make sure that your fees are fair to yourself not just the client...
Can you pay yourself a fair 'wage' and cover your costs?

Save As You Earn
the self-employed version of PAYE (Income Tax).
Remember all that you earn is not yours, the tax man wants a cut so make sure you set aside a percentage to cover the end of the year tax bill
Not sure how much to save, start at 20-23% if you're a basic rate tax payer .

🏖️ Planning ..
Holidays!
With the winter nights drawing in.. one of my favourite thinks to do is to get out the travel bucket list and start thinking about holidays for next year so that we can get them in diary and start making the plans .. If you have any ideas for great camping (campervan) spots in the UK give me a short ... and if anyone has been to Costa Rica (next big trip destination - possibly) would love to know your thoughts and tips .
|
Well I'll leave you for now as always thanks reading would love to hear your thoughts on any of the above or if you have any questions about your numbers, drop me an email.
PS: Next year I'm planning a few changes and thinking of a weekly email if you'd rather just receive the monthly updates please use the preferences option below.
Until next time, Jane
